About Yura
Yoga came into my life in 2011 as I was looking for a way to stay physically active after a foot injury limited my exercise abilities. I had no idea then that yoga was going to change not only my outlook on life but also improve the dynamics in my family and help me tremendously with other health issues. In 2013, I took the 200-Hour Yoga Teacher Training with Yoga District in Washington, DC and after a couple of years of looking for the right yoga style or tradition for me I fell in love with Ashtanga Yoga. Since then, Ashtanga has not only been my regular practice but, in a way, also what gives my life guidance, order and a sense of self-love.
I have trained and taken classes with amazing teachers like Sri Dharma Mittra, Kino McGregor, Elise Miller (Yoga for Scoliosis) Saraswathi Jois, Mariebelle, Viveka Om (Aqeel) Patrick McCleaf, Jasmine Chehrazi and David C. Kyle (with whom I am currently working on finishing my 500-Hour Progressive Ashtanga and Rocket Yoga Teacher Training Certification).
Thanks to a daily practice, which has taught me more than I could have ever imagined, I have successfully been able to manage my type 2 diabetes through diet and self-control. Also, my yoga practice has saved me from another surgery supposedly needed to help post-hysterectomy issues.
Most of my experience teaching has been so far with teenagers in school settings (since I have been a school teacher for 12 years) and also with private students in the Washington DC area.
I am super excited to keep providing guidance while helping people get in in shape, discover their own best self and start their journey to an improved quality of life!
Much love and peace,
Yura
